Visual displays play an important part in both individual and collaboarative work. While the use of visual representation for individuals working alone is well-studied, there is very little research exploring the potential of large, shared displays for group work and group learning. Previous field studies by CREW researchers show that the use of wall displays in group space may play an important role is supporting group work. New work on both the software and hardware capabilities of electronic whiteboards may afford new possibilities.

CREW researchers are beginning a set of studies on this topic. This research program will include laboratory-based experiments with both individuals and groups, a software partnership, and aditional field research, exploring the potential of electronic whiteboards and similar technologies in supporting group work.
