Overview |
CREW investigators are working to create a collaboratory for cancer and AIDS researchers with the goal of speeding up clinical trials. The early goals of this project are to better understand how the cancer and HIV/AIDS research communities work, to formulate a technology development and deployment plan, and to establish a baseline against which to understand the changes in practice that may result from the use of new technologies.

ICARE Net is a demonstration project involving software recommendations and configuration, the codification of communications systems, and the training of technology support staff. Based on a needs analysis, the project is using off-the-shelf groupware to link up a geographically distributed research team for the imminent start of a clinical trial. The clinical trial will be led by two researchers at the University of Michigan Medial Center: Gary Nabel, who is doing basic research in gene therapy; and Powel Kazanjian, who is the director of the HIV/AIDS clinical program at Michigan. A third doctor, Steve Wolinsky at Northwestern University, will also participate.
ICARE Net is funded by the John D. Evans Foundation.
