Steven Jackson is an Assistant Professor in the School of Information.  His research includes work on the relationship between large-scale information infrastructures, scientific practice, and the dynamics of public policy formation.  His principal study in this area to date has been around the emerging role of computer simulation models in shaping, aiding, and constraining water management practices and politics in the American Southwest (especially California).  He also teaches and conducts research in the areas of IT, deliberative politics, and democratic administration (‘digital government’); information policy analysis and design; and IT, globalization, and development.  He holds a Ph.D. from the Communication Department and the Science Studies Program at the University of California, San Diego, and an M.A. from the Institute of Political Economy at Carleton University (Ottawa).  In 2004-2005 he was a Doctoral Fellow at the National Center for Digital Government at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.  

In addition to his SI affiliations, Jackson serves on the steering committees of the University of Michigan Science, Technology, and Society (STS) and Science, Technology, and Public Policy (STPP) programs, and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the UM Department of Communication Studies.
