Research Interest
I am interested in researching how creative collaboration in the production of cultural artifacts and performances can be facilitated by information systems, and how this research may be informed by existing work into collaboratories and distributed science collaboration.

Individual computer users now have access to more powerful tools of creation than ever before, but current perspectives on creativity emphasize that it is a situated and contextual process. Cultural artifacts (music, literature, visual art and so on) are not generated and valued solely by isolated individuals, but in a web of relationships between creators, their peers, their tools and the marketplace. Whether these relationships are implicit or explicit in nature, enacted directly within a work group or more diffusely through an organization or community, their presence suggests a system that is inherently collaborative. Such collaborative relationships are under-supported by current information systems and tools, and thus are worthy of further study and development.
